Works as expected
I ordered a switch without having first disassembled the fan and got the wrong one (a 3 speed rather than the needed 4 speed).I then ordered the correct one…So, I suggest you take out the broken switch first to get the correct switch number as there are several different switches in Hunter fans.

Compatible with LJY280A
My old fan switch, a LJY280A, died and I couldn't find a direct replacement for it. Fortunately, this model is compatible as an alternative. (That said, I think the wiring order is slightly different--my fan now goes from speeds high > low > medium instead of high > medium > low. This isn't that big of a deal though. Refer to the wiring diagram.)Inserting the stripped wire ends into the housing is a massive pain, especially for the L slot, and I would recommend instead sticking separate wire segments into the switch housing, and then attaching them to the fan's wires via wire nuts so you're not trying to insert the wires while holding everything overhead. Otherwise, this product works as intended and was no more or less difficult to install compared to the previous switch.

It worked! Turns out red replaces red.
The real headache was finding the right one to buy! Took months to land upon this one, hours of internet rabbit holes and trying to decipher Chinese spec sheets... Well, it turns out that this "red" one was the perfect replacement for the "red" one that broke in the (totally unlabeled) ceiling fan. So if you're stuck, try matching the color is my advice. It wasn't easy to install, but oh my were we relieved when we turned it back on and the pull switch worked perfectly.

This was a direct replacement so it worked great. I hope it lasts as long as the previous one - about 12 years.

Works great and something a novice could repair
Replaced the 4 wire switch in our 20 yr old ceiling fan. Definitely watch a how to video on Youtube to understand how the switch works. First and most important, take picture of the switch you are replacing. You will need to know exactly which number corresponds to each wire. I found the wires difficult to insert but by using a small straight edge screwdriver I was able to get them to stay attached. Works great now.

Before you remove the wires from the old one, take a picture so you will remember where they belong. We replaced it in no time. Working great.
