Worked perfectly for making homemade masks

At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, my wife and I made masks for our family, about 14 in all. We used the product for the ear straps. Many of these masks get washed weekly, and going on two years into the pandemic, these straps are still going strong. I've only had to replace one strap, and that was because I accidentally cut it when I was sizing and cutting some filter paper to go into the mask.

This is now my third order of this elastic. It is ultra-soft and stretchy, therefore very comfortable to wear. I have to wear a mask for many hours at a time at work, and this elastic has never been an issue for me. It arrives in a shiny silver bag that can be resealed for convenience. I've already constructed dozens of masks for family and friends. They survive many trips through the washer and dryer. When needed, I'll be back for this particular elastic again.

I have been wearing homemade pleated masks that tie securely around the head and have been very pleased with the way they fit.. I needed a fitted mask with ear loops for an upcoming hair salon appointment and this was available so I decided to try using. It is a comfortable fit around ears but so thin I used two strands around each ear instead of one. Worked very well and held mask securely to face. A little difficult to sew in place because cord is so narrow. I felt it was expensive for the quantity, especially since I doubled amount used for a mask. 05/29/20-Wore mask with ear loops today for first time and actually liked it better than ties. Very comfortable. Plan on making another mask with this cord.

This is not good for a garroting wire, just a head's up. It's very elastic-y. It's also pretty comfortable for the first hour, hour and a half, when looped behind your ears. It works better if you use it as the head elastic cord.I made a mask for myself and wore it for three hours - at the half hour mark, my ears started to hurt and I needed to take the mask off before my ears went flying off my head. I alternated on and off so that I could still be safe. I wouldn't really recommend this cord for ear looping, but I do recommend it for the longer behind-the-head elastic looping.

The material is exactly what it said it would be. It's soft, stretchy and seems strong. I was able to make masks. The lower rating is not really fair because it was my fault for not reading the details closely. But I was disappointed that I received such a small amount. At the time of purchase, it was very hard to get any supplies for mask making. The wait times were very long and when I saw that this one was available in only a few days I got excited and ordered right away. 10 yards is not as much as I thought it would be. I would order it again but would try to find a larger quantity for the price.

My creation will not win any awards and folks better at sewing will have better results. I somewhat modified CDC mask instructions. (Google "CDC mask pattern" for this and other options.) Use two pieces of 6 inch by 10 inch cotton fabric with six inches of elastic cord for the ear loops. I used eight inches instead because six didn't look long enough. I sewed the fabric pieces together allowing for a space to reverse the material so most of the seams were on the inside. Then I threaded the elastic with a large needle (like for plastic canvas) through the sides. I did not stitch the elastic edge in place nor tuck in the knot (as per the CDC instructions.) It is not as nice as a purchased masks. Someone with sewing skills can do a lot better job. But it could be made by hand with a basic sewing repair kit.

In my opinion, this elastic is not good for making masks. It is very round and thin, not what I was expecting. I have no idea what I will do with it. There was a lot of elastic, though, if this is what you're looking for.
