Question 2

Are these similar to the meal mixers? The meal mixers make great treats but are more expensive per weight. Could I pull these apart to use as treats?

Not at all similar to meal mixers. These are hard until they are reconstituted, which makes them easier to pull apart. I don't think they are ideal as treats because  they would get crumbled. They make wonderful full meals for a small dog, with a 6 pound dog getting one patty each morning.  I soak a patty to soften it, then pull it apart for easier eating. I put the pulled apart patty on top of kibble, which I leave in the dish for the whole day.  The 1 pound bags are a far better bargain than the 5.5 ounce bags.

Question 3

Some bags have really hard patties and some are soft, is there a reason? Should I return when we get the really hard ones? Not consistant

Perhaps it's just something I noticed, but I find that those that are all beef or have beef blends are harder than those that are chicken or pheasant.  The hardness doesn't really bother me as I break them up anyway and they have those little drying packets in the bag anyway.  Hope that helps in some way.  I might contact Stella and Chewy and get a final answer just to clarify.

My dog is 16 years old.  I need to get soft textured food and treats. Which would you recommend ?

All of the Stella & Chewy's dinner patties and kibble bits are freeze-dried and can be easily crumbled for your elder statesman dog.   My dog likes all the varieties and there are enough varieties (duck, turkey, beef, goat, seafood, lamb, mixtures) you should be able to find something your dog likes.  The manufacturer recommends rehydrating the patties if your dog doesn't drink water with meals or at least having water available if you're giving your dog the patties dry.  I like to give our dog his regular dry food and then crumble a few patties on top  and then mix the whole thing with water to make a nice warm soupy mix.   Our dog LOVES these patties.  I do NOT give them as treats; rather, I use them as a meal-time supplement.
