Now that I have played Catan for a while, I decided to try this version. Oh boy, this must be an intense yet fun expansion for Catan. If you enjoy Catan for its simplicity, I wouldn't recommend this expansion since this adds a whole new layer of complexity to the game, albeit not as complex as Conquerors. When I played this game with my friends, it became a blast, we all were nervous about the barbarians that were inching closer to the island. I believe the threat of losing a city makes this fun. Also, depending on who you play with, this game is not COOP at all. The box, reviewers, and Youtubers all said that this expansion was about working together to fight off those pesky barbarians using your knights... well that was a lie. My friends will constantly find ways to destroy my cities, making the looming barbarians extremely intense. I honestly loved this expansion, I found the intensity fun and completely changes how you play. Even though you still need to build settlements and roads to get resources, the threat of barbarians, unbuyable progress cards (that replace development cards), and the merchant, make this game different, which is not bad.So, if you enjoy the Catan for its simplicity, I wouldn't recommend this pack. However, if you like to play coop (or intense pressure), this is the pack for you. The expansion is well-made and adds more replayability to Catan. The best part is that it is compatible with seafarers, so it allows you to have boats which I love.

I bought this for a giftee of a board game exchange, and they loved it, being Catan was one of their favorite games. Like anyone who loves Catan, they know it's amazing, but adding more would just amplify the experience. I remember the first time I played this expansion. My experience was crazy amplified.As someone who plays a good amount of CATAN, the Cities & Knights expansion has completely revitalized my gaming experience with Catan and friends. It adds a strategic depth that makes every game feel fresh and challenging. The introduction of commodities and the development of city improvements adds a new layer of resource management, making it far more engaging for seasoned players.The knight and barbarian mechanics bring a new level of interaction and urgency that forces players to think ahead and collaborate, yet still leaves room for those classic CATAN betrayals we all love (or hate). This expansion also balances the game better by providing more ways to score points, making the race to 13 points more dynamic and less predictable.If you're a CATAN veteran looking to elevate your game night, Cities & Knights is a must-have. Just be prepared for longer games and even more intense smack talking between people in the group in the best (worst) way possible! It's fun, buy it!

We LOVE Cities and Night, and we use this one for a player expansion. We just painted the pieces different colors and use it to expand the game to be up to 6 players. Works grear!

I.Love this game to death and life.But wow , does this add way too much playtime to my current catan playtime!Seriously guys We need to find out how to make this game more time efficient.

We combined this game with Catan Seafarers… and, on my! This is a hit! My family plays it every day and they don’t want to play anything else! My boys are 9 and 7, and technically are two young for this game, but we play it gently with them (adult don’t use the Robert and most of the politics cards against them) - and they love the game. They read the rules tons of time and know all the nuances. I would never thought they could be so fascinated with it. It has been about five months of pretty much daily playing so far… love the game!

I love this game, if you already have the original game and are experienced with Catan. THIS IS AN EXPANSION. with that said, this is by far my favorite one. Comes with cool new pieces.

Long time Catan player here, decided to upgrade to the 6th edition (we purchased base game, seafarers and C&K all at once).Gameplay is the same as all previous editions so I’m not reviewing that, just sharing some thoughts on the new edition:Like:The barbarian invasion is integrated into the board now which is really fun. It feels like they are really invading the island now!The new artwork is all really cute and it’s fun to look at all the details.Instead of flipping your city development cards, you now move a small block up a card. This is easier but we commented that if you were not familiar with C&K we feel this new format is more confusing.The metropolis pieces are color coded and the walls fit to the cities better.Dislike:The knights are now wooden pieces and it makes it much harder to keep track of how many are on the board because they blend in with your routes and settlements etc. They also look like little rude fingers lol.The green of the paper and light green of cloth is hard to differentiate - especially on the dice. The cloth and sheep, paper and wood, and coin and ore cards all look very similar and it’s easy to mistake one for the other. Cloth should have been yellow!The progress cards have been renamed - some of them are slight changes like The Alchemist is now Alchemy, but others are completely different names, so it will take some time to adjust.Overall, these are changes that we will adapt to over time, but I think we will still use the old knights and the small VP chits from the old games as they are better.
