Upon a cotton sheet I sit

As consumers how are we to know when a seller tells us that their product is made of a certain material? Shoppers are learning that when a furniture manufacture says real wood that can easily mean that what was used to grind the sawdust for so-called MDF product originated from a tree. And who hasn’t bought a stainless steel item for their kitchen only to find out the fact that they only mean it only looks like stainless steel? And most famous of all is the word leather which these days almost always means a manmade product made of ground up recycled leather with such names as pleather or “bonded”. I’ve been learning that 100% cotton doesn’t mean that it is completely made of fibers from a cotton bush and nothing else, even though we are asked to pay a king’s ransom for some brands of sheets. To me these feel nice but maybe a little too smooth and shiny compared to what I grew up with or what some of the better hotels use as all-cotton sheets. I like my sheets to feel like cloth, which means they have at least some weave texture. These are really good and I can see why they are so popular and I have to weigh the price, which though higher than most people will ever spend on a sheet is still far lower than a similar sheet will cost is a department store or even at the membership club.Regarding the weight of the sheets, what is also described as the thickness, these are both heavy and thick. One easy way to compare brands is just look at the product weight in the description, these are a full pound heavier than another best selling brand of cotton sheets. And that’s not due to how they are wrapped-up, this company uses minimalistic materials and no wasteful plastic bag that will be thrown out anyway and not be biodegradable. Maybe they do go a little overboard patting themselves on the back how responsible they are but it seems they do walk the talk.I can’t write a fair review without mentioning the question of wrinkles. The simple short answer is if you dislike wrinkles so much you shouldn’t be considering all-cotton sheets, a truly non-wrinkle cotton sheet simply does not exist. And if you insist on buying these please don’t write about how you don’t like that they wrinkle – the seller describes that very clearly in their information column that these WILL wrinkle and the best you can do is remove them immediately from the dryer and if it really bothers you spend an hour ironing them. I’m not going to do that, I don’t care if my sheets look a little lived in, I’m not sure I could sleep if they were perfectly smooth and I had to worry about messing them up. I can put up with some wrinkling, that’s why I buy cotton sheets. There are some things I can’t live (okay sleep) with and one of them is when my fitted sheet pulls out and by morning it’s wrapped all over me. These have a stronger than average elastic band that runs all the way around the bottom sheet and tucks deeply under the mattress. No matter how active I am in bed they haven’t pulled out yet. I also like that the top sheet is long from head to foot so it too can be tucked in deep. A short sheet is one of the first signs of a cheap sheet. At the price I think I would prefer that the pillowcases have that envelope flap that tucks in to cover the end of the pillow. It’s not a big deal to me but it’s what I’m used to.When I decided to give up sheets made of plastic materials and look for all cotton ones I didn’t realize how difficult that process would be. When I decided on these they had the most reviews by far, mostly positive. I add mine to that because I think they are worth it.

Feels great and includes a clever addition

These sheets are well constructed and sewn. The sateen weave gives these sheets a smooth and silky sleep experience. I always feel an "ahhhh" sensation when I bed down for the night. Best of all, the makers of this sheet set sewed in a tag at the foot/head of the fitted sheet so you know it exactly belongs at the foot/head of the bed. You don't need to figure out if you oriented the corners correctly because it's clearly marked! Don't know why it took such a long time for someone to figure out how to ease the task of making the bed.

Color on one side and pure white on the other

I've bought California Den for several years. There are Pros and Cons so if you are looking for perfection at this price that expectation is going to disappoint. Here's what I'll say: they really do not misinform when they say it doesn't pill, doesn't fade, washes well, they use very long staples, they are breathable, light, deep pockets, and tags to help you get it the correct direction it is all true.what they don't say is that their QA is often mediocre, at best. Sometimes there's threads that weren't cut off, sometimes they don't have things sewn at all, sometimes they get things crooked or uneven (I had a sheet that was about 10" longer on one side than the other), colors don't match from set to set so two green sets could be very different tones. I've bought 400, 500, and 600 for years now and honestly there's not much difference. I learned that anything more is just too heavy and hot to where I sweat and the sheets get wet and I wake up over heated. The 400 is really silky and nice on your face when you sleep because it stays cool and your hair doesn't get knotted up (those with curly or wavy hair know what I mean). But this is light and I found that the bottom sheet will run (like pantyhose) if you do a lot of leg movement within a few months. This washes up the best. I wash it on my Allergen cycle most of the time because we have pets and dry on the Bedding cycle then remove and fold. There are never wrinkles! So if this appeals to you it may be the one. Colors available are typically whites, grays, tans, and blues; all solids. The ability to have light colors exist in this weight.the 500 is a great weight for heat or those that run hot and tend to kick sheets and blankets off. It is still silky but not as nice for a pillowcase. the flat sheet floats and is very nice. the bottom sheet lasts longer than the 400 and I have some 500s that have never ran. However the 500 is where I see the most QA issues and never seem to get the same thing twice. I have Dogs so I like to put a sheet over the bed too as a coverlet, so that the dogs aren't getting fur on the bedding when I go to sleep. I shake that sheet off or run it through the dryer to get the hair off and then put it back over the bed. Most of the 500 colors are always out of stock and it is even worse if you just want an extra flat sheet. The 500 has all masculine solid colors only (DARK) and most colors are out of stock. You can get really dark colors so if that's your thing, this may work for you. The 500 washes well. I did was it 2 times with OXI to get the stiffness out. If you take it out and fold it while warm there are no wrinkles.the 600 really feels no different from the 500 (weight-wise) and if you get the extra long staple Egyptian 600, they are actually silkier than the 400s with the light, breath-ability of the 500. For the first time patterns were available and so I bought the blue one with the diamonds. I was taken off guard when I opened the box and seen that the pattern is only on one side and the other side is pure white. When they said the cotton was dyed I didn't expect this because this is like the cheap printing not dying. so if you are the type that likes to fold over the top sheet it will look like you put your sheets on inside out. The prints are not available in singles meaning you can't buy extra sheets or pillowcases to match but you can coordinate. However the blue in the pattern doesn't match the blue in the solid sheets, Then again their QA is poor so maybe it didn't match this time but the next batch may. The 600 washes well but regardless of your diligence you will have a tad of wrinkles with this. It is best to have a light load in the dryer so that the wrinkles are nearly eliminated. The lighter load will allow it to dry quicker than the 500 in a full load. To remove the sizing in the 600 I washed it on the Sanitize, with OXI, 3 times and they are nice and silky soft now.the price is extremely low compared to others costing $600-1400, If you are lucky to get a great quality set that doesn't unravel when washed, doesn't run, and is properly cut and sewn then the value of this is fantastic and it will last for many years. if not, it may make it a year.I know others have pictures of dirty, moldy and other things but I've never experienced anything even close. The box from Amazon (the distributor and shipper) has another box inside and then inside that is the box for California Den. The sheets are wrapped in Tissue Paper and folded mechanically into the box. all of the packing material is recyclable and made responsibly from recycled materials. The cotton is also a natural, highly responsible and renewable material grown with minimal resources.

Excellent sheets for the price.

I am a big fan of cotton sheets in warm weather as they always feel cooler. Microfiber okay in winter. The sheets fit well on the Cal King memory foam mattress and stay in place. At 600 thread count they are not to heavy and should be very durable. I would expect them to last like previous sheets which is at least 5 years.I like the dark blue color.

Love!

Love these sheets. I have bought many of them. I have bought 600 and 900 count. The 600 says sateen and is but just slightly. When you get to the 900 they are definitely sateen. The quality is top notch.Love !

If you want cotton sheets, this it the product for you

Love these sheets! I want the natural material to sleep on. I hate sleeping on the synthetic material that dosent breathe. And I have bought several and have never been disappointed.

Sateen sheets are the way to go

These are thick and sturdy but cool to sleep on,they really have that luxury feel.I bought the cheaper 400thread count and they can’t compare to these.I will be purchasing another set of these very soon!

Not made in California

I like the sheets but only gets 4 stars.I think they are misleading in the advertising. They are not made in the USA or in California. They are made in India.I was looking to only buy made in the USA. The sheets are nice, the only reason I would not buy again is because of the misleading advertising.
