Perfect thickness and cushion for picky sleepers: thin/thick couple
I am a well-cushioned 190 lbs at 5'4" and my partner is a skinny 150 lbs at 6'2". We are both side sleepers, but being very different body types, it's been hard to find a mattress that makes us both comfortable at night. When we were replacing our mattress, my partner (naturally) wanted a very plush mattress, but a plush hurts my back since my heavier weight causes me to sink too deeply into the mattress and puts me out of alignment. My partner also has scoliosis, so I felt that a mattress that was too soft would not be helpful for him from an orthopedic standpoint over the long-term, regardless of how comfortable a plush initially seemed for him. We finally agreed to let me buy an extra firm mattress to get the support that I thought we both needed, but then I also agreed to get a suitable mattress topper to help my partner get relief, as he would experience pressure points in his shoulders and hips from such a firm sleeping surface. I figured it was better to get a replaceable plush-style mattress topper than to get an actual plush-top mattress, have that start to sag in a few years, and then be forced to replace the entire mattress again. I read and watched tons of mattress topper review articles and videos, and discovered that a) the same few mostly-online-only brands basically dominate the reviews, which makes it seem like they're the only game in town, and b) it's actually important to make sure you're getting a mattress topper that suits the issue you're trying to solve: many people seem to want a topper that is firmer to help even out an aged, sagging mattress, whereas a fewer number of people, such as myself, need to soften/cushion a brand-new, very firm mattress. I initially wanted to avoid memory foam due to the off-gassing and apparent relatively short lifespan, so first, I chose a lovely Pacific Coast Feather baffle box featherbed with a cover ($$), but my partner didn't think that was enough pressure relief, and I agreed--it was so heavenly puffy to touch, but once I laid my heavy weight on the featherbed, I sank right down to the mattress. It was almost like laying on top of a down comforter, which we did already have and had tried already as a stopgap measure once the new mattress had arrived, but we both had found the loft to be insufficient to sleep on top of. So we returned that and tried a Sleep On Latex 2" natural latex topper in their softest model with a cover ($$$), which I absolutely loved and thought was amazing quality, but my partner unfortunately still thought that it wasn't insulating him enough from the mattress and he was still experiencing pressure points. (I still would highly recommend the SOL topper for anyone who is a bit heavier who wants to be well-supported by a topper. Their return policy is extremely generous and they even send you a new, larger box to return the topper since it's impossible to get the topper back into the original box). So then I read tons more reviews, and had basically resigned myself to trying a memory foam topper, when I actually saw a review on Amazon for this Tuft & Needle mattress topper where a couple seemed to have a situation similar to ours and had even tried similar other toppers (featherbed, then natural latex) as we did before settling on, and loving, the Tuft & Needle. Indeed, this thing is AWESOME. Even I have to admit that for our needs, it is superior to the latex--it is the perfect combination of plush and supportive. Our mattress is EXTREMELY firm, but this basically makes the sleeping surface feel resilient and spongy. I can flop down onto the bed from any angle (back, stomach, side) and it is so soft, but it somehow still feels springy and still transfers the supportiveness of the firm mattress underneath. My back is definitely in perfect alignment whether i sleep on my side or lay on back. My partner adored this topper from the minute we got it--he just curled up into a cozy ball and all pressure points were gone--it's that soft. Further, the topper is light, doesn't smell, comes with a cover (which i prefer so the foam doesn't crumble or break off all over the bed), is easy to reposition, and is honestly very reasonably priced so if this should start to sag in a couple years, I won't be too fussed about ordering another one. We've had this now for nearly three months and it still feels amazing to both of us. I see how this would definitely not be the right topper for someone who was looking to firm up a sagging mattress, but for us, it is perfect. Gotta hand it to this brand: well done. A+++

Exactly what I was looking for
I bought a firm innerspring mattress, knowing it would be too firm for my side sleeping. I figured it would be better to soften it up a bit with a topper that I could replace in a few years if I needed to, rather than replace a mattress. After a month of sleeping on my Tuft and Needle topper I know I made the right choice.Unlike most people I sleep cold, not hot, and it has been hard for me to find a topper whose main feature is not cooling. If you cool me I will not sleep a wink all night. It doesn't sleep hot either. Now that it is winter in Oregon, I have to use flannel sheets and heat my feet with a heating pad, but with those additional preparations I sleep comfortably warm, not cold or hot. Only problem is, I don't want to get out of bed in the morning.I don't like memory foam. This foam is comfortable without me feeling like I'm sinking too far deep into it.Regarding the problem many reviewers have mentioned about the topper sliding off the bed: I put it next to the mattress under the mattress protector. After about a week or 2, it will slide a bit. I just go around to the other side of the bed and tug it back from under the fitted sheet, leaving about 1/2 inch of bed so it has somewhere to go when it slides. I don't need to unmake the bed. I'm 78 and not hugely strong but it slides back easily. I don't find this to be a problem.I never noticed a smell when I opened the box. And the price was better than the other topper I was considering.I recommend this topper.

Stays in place; not memory foam
I didn't want a memory foam mattress topper that was thick. This 2-inch foam topper from Tuft & Needle is cushion-y bit not too soft. The dots on the bottom help keep the topper from sliding around. It's not so thick that I can't fit my fitted sheet over it and my mattress. Very pleased.

Makes an average mattress great
We got a regular spring mattress after realizing that most memory foam types don’t offer enough support. But it just wasn’t cozy and not a bed I wanted to curl up on, even though my back pain was gone. This topper saved the day! It has made my bed comfortable and cozy, and I can’t believe how nice it feels even though it isn’t that thick. I didn’t notice any bad smells upon opening, and doesn’t make me any hotter than I normally would be.

Love this so much we bought it twice.
First bought this mattress topper in ~2017 to soften an extra firm tempurpedic that was like sleeping on a slab of concrete. It made the mattress very comfortable - still firm but with some give.In 2024 I bought another firm mattress that I was expecting to have some more give (a hybrid with springs and memory foam combo), but it was also more firm than expected. I looked at reviews and there are a few out there now that have higher ratings than T&N, but I knew from having this one before that I liked it. It's just soft enough to make a firm mattress more comfortable, without making it too soft. It breathes well (we don't get too hot), and the material is really nice.

It’s not as good as I had hoped for ..
We bought a firm mattress recently thinking that would be better for my back pains but have since found out because I’m a side sleeper, it’s giving pain on my hips and side worse than my back pain now. Talk about bad luck! Found this topper based off some online reviews. When I first got the topper, I was able to sleep fine and the pain went away on my sides but that only lasted for a few weeks. The pain slowly started coming back and I’m now sleeping on a pregnancy pillow to help with the pain. The topper also moves a lot so you have to keep pulling it every couple of days.We will eventually have to just chuck this mattress and topper get a new mattress.

So comfortable
I was unsure and waited a long time before purchasing this topper since the reviews were mixed. I had bought a new mattress and was having hip and shoulder pain from the firmness. I tried a feather bed and then a natural latex topper, neither softened the mattress enough. This one sounded like it would add the just the right amount of plushness. I ordered an all cotton mattress pad to put over it as reviewers said it sleeps hot, and it helps it stay in place. It does sleep a warm (I find this more than my husband) but it is oh so comfortable.
