Little AC BIG Punch
This is a great little AC unit. I am using it for a bit of a different purpose and abnormal install. It is sitting inside my home network rack cooling multiple devices with no issues. Pulling only 500 watts, I can run this unit off my Anker Solix 1500 and not worry about draining the batteries too quickly. The unit is small, light and very efficient. I do believe it will cool a small room with no issues. The remote feature was a must for me because I am using a smart controller to run the AC unit on a schedule. Definitely recommend for a small room at this price.

Perfect for a bedroom-cools and blocks light
I like having a window unit in my bedroom. I recently replaced a 20-year-old 5000 BTU unit made by GE with a Medea, but it unfortunately made a rattling/grinding noise every time the compressor came on. What I did like about that unit was that it was black. I really like the fact that it helps to block light that would normally come through with a white air conditioner. I decided to go back to GE, and was able to find that they did indeed produce a black unit, and it really does a nice job of blocking light from coming into my bedroom. At 5000 BTUs, it is the correct size for the room, and keeps the room nice and cool. The fan itself is a bit loud, but that doesn't bother me because it is very much like a white noise generator. The compressor comes on very quietly, so it doesn't interrupt my sleep. So far, this has been a good purchase, and because it is such a simple air conditioner, without all the bells and whistles of being a smart unit with Wi-Fi and remote controls, I expect that it will last for years-just like my previous GE.

Watch out if buying other than new ....
I have bought a couple of these little 5K btu A/C 's GE manual control . The new one was fine , no problems . This past winter I bought another listed as "like new" . The "like new" unit came in a box that was battered and more repair tape than cardboard . This "like New" unit looked like it had been dropped from a 3rd story window , most of metal parts were bent and much of the rear coil fins bent flat . Front plastic panel cracked, on and on . It did however have all the parts . Didn't look at it much until warm weather came , ( by then of course the return window was expired ) . Got the toolbox out and began straightening metal , gluing plastic , putting fins back in place etc . HEY ! it works ! Have been running the unit for several days now and it works just fine on low cool or high cool . One of the selector knobs on front panel is a little off alignment , just marked it with a sharpie . Bottom line , Would think twice about ordering a "like new" unit , who even knows what a lesser rated unit would look like . I give GE 5+ stars for making a "tuff" little A/C but must subtract a star for the condition of the "like new" unit I received .This Is ; InMyOpinion .

Not the best
Bought over a month ago. Been in Use finally for 2wks now. (So past the 30 day return window so that's my fault) Not too happy. Doesn't cool very well. It struggles like a 5000btu even though it's a 6000btu (12x11 room) It's loud like a box fan on high+ but the fan blow function itself is pretty weak (have to keep bedroom door completely closed and takes a while to "cool" room, not cold) it makes a "ringing in the ear sound" when cool function on that's annoying, the Styrofoam sounds like it's crackling with water drip sounds (not too loud but there) . It takes a few minutes to get the cool function to start. 2x already it ran for about an hour and didn't kick on. Realized when still sweating so Had to turn off n turn back on to get to work. I dont know if I got a fluke or this is just a bad model. I've only owned GE a/c. These last 2 I bought off Amazon, the first didn't last. 2nd summer it just didn't turn on and now this one. Is it just the ones on Amazon or is GE really starting to go downhill? I may just go to the store for next one after this is paid off. It's a 2 star but Gave it 3 stars more for ear c of purchase, price, delivery and payment plan options.

great ac unit...
We are so happy with this new unit. We updated from the last unit GE was selling. There have been NO PROBLEMS at all with it so far. It runs quiet and when the compressor comes on you can hardly hear it. I am grateful for this unit. Thank you GE. BLESSINGS.

Finally one that works..but
First off, the room this is going into is 15'x15' (225sq ft) but the windows are these older 14" wide windows. The previous unit was also a GE 5,000 BTU and just fit enough. It lasted about 5yrs and on hot 100+ days could keep that room with a server in it around 70-72 on max cool. When it finally died out I tried the Amazon Basics a few days ago and it was a dud out of box... Decided to go with what worked last time only a different color. In the pic on setting 7, it got down to 55deg before compressor kicked off. Had I left it on max cool, it would have easily been down to around 52deg. This is what my previous GE got down to. Since it's brand new at time of pic and freshly turned on, I wanted to break it in slowly before maxing it.The only downside that GE seems to share is that the fan speed on low or high are not much different. The high fan speed is not that great. I will say this, the Amazon Basics one really pushed air out fast but could never get cooler than 68 out of the vent. This GE is also a tad noist with the compressor on and has a chirp to it with the freon cycling. Overall, it is sunny and 80 degrees out and with 2 of my servers going in this larger room, the temp inside with doors closed is an even 70 at max cool.
