Yes I agree it is a misleading. They are simply springs. Also it is the most challenging part of the installation of this coffee table. Unless you have an appropriate tool to help, otherwise you have to use your hands to pull the springs (they are strong) to fix them in the table.

Q: Can it be used as an eating table when raised?

Yes but you'd obviously have have to sit at the raised side, we actually use this for my mum when she comes over as she has back problems so needs a higher eating position as low and hunched over is not good for her
