What a cracking kettle!
It might seem odd to get excited about a kettle, but this one perfectly solved what was making me hate my previous kettle. That slow loud idiot was impossible to hear anything over and it took a merry age to get to temperature.Fast forward to unboxing this gem. It’s smaller, though takes the same volume of water. And it is virtually SILENT! (Sorry, shhh.) and *really* fast. But on top of that this cheeky device also tells me how hot the water in it is- and often I don’t even re heat as it’s plenty warm for coffee etc. Where I would’ve filled and boiled on autopilot each use, I’m not and I’m not using as much power, which is great.Yes, it’s not a ‘easy’ as flicking a switch; you have to select temp every time you use it. But a few weeks in and I’m fine with that minor habit change.I’m in a really hard water area, so time will tell if it slows or gets noisier. So yeah, possibly one of my wisest purchases in a long time. If you need a good kettle, you may have just found it.

Good kettle and reasonably quiet as kettles go.
Works fine and is quieter than my old kettle which was a Dualit.

Fast, light and pretty but loud.
The media could not be loaded. Had to buy a new kettle at short notice after our beloved Cosori glass kettle was smashed. This one had good reviews and was on a decent prime day deal so we decided to get it. Pros- It looks good- It is very light.- It boils very quickly- It pours very evenly and there is no chance of spillage. Cons- It over boils massively. As you can see in the video I had to turn it off manually in the end to save the electricity. - It is NOT quiet!!! It is the loudest kettle I’ve heard in a long time so I find the fact is it marketed as quiet mind boggling! In comparison to my old Cosori it sounds like a jet engine 😂In summary I am fairly happy with the kettle. Its speed is a much better selling point than the noise. If you are looking for a quiet kettle then this is not for you. But if you don’t care about the noise then I’d recommend.

Ideal for new flats
Bought this for my little brother as a house-warming present for his new flat. Good components, shiny, sleek and decent boiling speed. If you're getting things together for a new kitchen, you'll definitely getting your money's worth with this one!

Made water taste metalic even after alot of washes out
Nice kettle, boils fast and quiet too, but unfortunately had to return it. Understandably new kettles have a new smell to them that you have to boil it a few times and even use bicarbonate of soda if necessary, but no matter how many times we boiled it and bicarbed it and washed it out, just couldn't shake the the strong metalic smell inside, which transfered to the water and made it taste bad, so returned and got a Morphy Richards, which so far had no issues if this nature.

This is my 3rd Kettle now !
I have always had Russell Hobbs kettles as did my parents before me, but we usually bought the "traditional" shape ones. This is now my 3rd kettle of this particular model and they seem to be lasting 4 years each !Firstly they are a good kettle, and virtually noiseless for about 8-9 months, then the noise increases, so like a good customer I bought their official 'Multi Purpose Descaler' which isn't cheap, and that cures the problem for 2 months if you are lucky, then you need to repeat the process and you only get 5 doses in each bottle, I bought 3 bottles - so basically one it starts getting noisy there is no cure, so don't waste your money on the descaler,I suppose how long the noiseless last depends on your water hardness softness too, out water is very, very slightly limey, you really don't get any limescale build up inside the kettle though as such.Regarding the lid sticking by other reviewers. this has personally never happened to us.Also the 'plastic' taste in the water, once gain we have never found that, and my only thought is that are people filling the kettle to max, boiling it, throwing the water out and repeating the operation - as stated in the instructions ?Wouldn't be the first time people haven't read the instructions, and that includes me sometimes by the way.Now for my BIG grumble and one that Russell Hobbs SHOULD address that is the on/off switch. It seems these are designed to fail, every 4 years in our case, as that has happened to both out last 2 kettles, and I feel sure it will happen to this new one too. in 4 years timeI might add that the traditional Russell Hobbs kettles lasted at least 15 years, and IF you were unlucky you might need to replace the element, I and I have replaced at least 500 on the old style ones (Saturday Job), but that that was it, people loved those kettles.Right, back to my point, the on/off tab that you press down eventually fails and snaps off... why ? because it is just plastic and I suspect the heat from the bottom of the kettle also makes it fail and snap.It is absolutely impossible to repair, because it snaps of at the furthermost point, you just can't get into it and repair it safely,I have worked in electrical/electronics virtually all my life, along with a period in design so I have a lot more insight/experience into these sort of problems. This design or material choice (why not make the stem out of metal, then attach the plastic bit on the end of the stem ?) is making people throw away a perfectly usable kettle, everting else was perfectly fine on the two I binned. We are supposed to making everything sustainable and NOT throw away perfectly good electrical goods for a simple fix... Russell Hobbs please listen !I nearly gave this 3 stars, but when it is working it is fine, the noise is a problem after a while but I can live with that, but the switch snapping off is just criminal really though, look how many customers have reported this. The big question is when (... not if) this switch fails again, will I buy another Russell Hobbs question, well no unless they address the issue.I personally have supported Russel Hobbs for 50 years now, and as I say my parents did too, but is it now time to call it a day ?We shall see in 4 years time... over to you Russell Hobbs.
