A NICE PIECE OF CHAIN

An excellent product. It's strong, well-made, and easy to install. I do not understand people who are complaining about missing hardware. So what? You do not get screws that you would have to replace anyway depending on the type of door you are attaching this fabulous chain to.

A hurricane strap for the door

This Crash Chain has very stiff springs at either end of a solid, welded chain. We have a heavy steel and glass storm door that catches the prevailing winds like a sail.Periodically over the past two years, Amazon delivery drivers would open the door and place packages between the main door and the storm door. The storm door, not able to close completely because of the boxes, would get caught by strong winds. It always resulted in all sorts of damage to support parts. Mangled jamb brackets, bent hydraulics, snapped "crash chains" made of twisted wire chains, and bent hinges. This is the best rugged crash chain that I've seen, and for less than $20 each, I got one for each exterior door. Very happy with the results. The typical hardware store crash chains have a soft damping effect and twisted wire chains that are fine to prevent a door from hyperextending from someone opening the door or getting caught by a light breeze. For serious winds, the soft damping has little benefit, and the chains stretch or even break. This crash chain has at least 100 lbs of spring resistance from the stiff dual spring configuration, and the screws into the door or jamb will fail long before this chain breaks. The only negative I have is with the ugly vinyl cover.

High quality, install not too bad

I have an industrial steel door so I used different screws but the install is fairly easy. Make sure you mount the door bracket low enough to clear the door seal when the door is closed. I drew a line in the center of the chain and used equal lengths from each end from the door frame and the door, with the door open as much as I wanted it to open. Each install will be a bit different, just make sure you clear every thing. I love the double springs , the chain size, and the chain protective cover. I liked it so much I bought a 2nd one for my other building.

Just installed this chain on my heavy, six foot wide shed door.

Just installed this chain on my heavy, six foot wide shed door. No instructions included but if you know how to use a drill and a screw driver it's not rocket surgery. Shortening the chain is a bit of a challenge if you've never done it before, but there are a bunch of youtube videos out there showing how to do it, and it's not at all difficult. Once shortened the extra links can be cut off if you don't want them dangling from the mount. The only real mystery is - what the heck is that supplied split link for....?Only four stars at this writing because it's only been installed for a day or two, but its high quality chain and springs should be durable.

Best of 3 we tried.

We got these to put on the door to the fire riser rooms of large apartment buildings. I bought three different ones at different price points. Of the three, this was our favorite, and also the cheapest at under $12. I went to order more a week later and the price had shot up to $20, so I bought the next order elsewhere. These will help keep those doors from being damaged in the wind during construction.

Decent chain, zero hardware included

The chain itself appears pretty decent. Not including screws may not be a big deal to some, but I can see a lot of people needing to take a trip to the hardware store that takes time, which for something that should absolutely be included but isn't. Makes me wonder what else may be skimped on.Hope the lack of screws costs them enough to not do it again with future products...this trend needs to end.

Best storm door safety chain available

The media could not be loaded. I installed this safety chain on a west facing door. In our are it gets all the weather. I'm confident this kit will work as it should to reduce wind damage to the storm door. The mounting ends are cast metal. It utilizes 1/4" straight link chain, not well chain. It comes with a plastic sleeve to protect the surroundings. The chain is long enough for most any storm door. You need to provide your own mounting screws depending on the materials the door and frame are made of.Here's what I did in this application. I cut the chain to obtain a 24" mount to mount length. Then I cut the sleeve to match. Next I cut a hole in the center of the sleeve to facilitate a spring to pull the chain up out of the way. Then I mounted the chain brackets to obtain an equal length on either side of the hinge point. (Fulcrum) I shot the little video about the time my neighbor rode up on his lawnmower. :-) I'm confident you will be satisfied with the product.

Handy stop chain for my door

Item came as advertised and also included the screws needed which I didn't expect based on other reviews. I installed this in about 15 minutes and it works like a charm! If the wind catches my door in the future this spring loaded stop chain will keep the door from being ripped from its hinges.
